article Benefits of Local Farm Fresh Food

Kakadoodle is on a mission to be the best, most convenient way for you to access local farm fresh food. But why?

The industrial food system is great at producing cheap and convenient food, but it comes at a cost to our health and environment. We already know that the additives and chemicals found in food are linked to increase rates of many health issues ranging from ADHD to cancer. If you begin to look at it from a global perspective, it is also easy to see the negative impact that production, packaging and transportation of these foods has on the environment.

Buying food free of those chemicals is the first step you can take when consuming consciously. Buying LOCAL food free of those chemicals takes it to the next level. Here are the benefits of buying local farm fresh food, just like we have at Kakadoodle.

Reasons to Eat Local:

1. It’s very fresh! Once you taste fresh ingredients in your meal, you quickly realize that fresh just tastes better. The first time you experienced that fresh flavor was probably with a juicy farmstand tomato. The same rings true for other ingredients. Once you try local fresh pasture raised chicken eggs, you just can’t go back to any other kind!

2. Often more nutritious Even when you focus on health and buy fresh from the grocery store, some fruits and veggies may actually lose some of their nutrients during transportation and storage. Keep in mind that the closer to harvesting time, the higher the antioxidant content.

3. Shorter route, lower carbon footprint With all of our Kakadoodle farmers and customer being local, the transportation of our food contributes to less pollution and fewer carbon emissions than buying through the standard grocery channels. Don’t be surprised if the “grass finished beef” you purchase from the grocery store is actually imported all the way from Australia and processed in the United States! Our grass-fed, grass-finished beef is from Manteno, IL.

4. Healthier ecosystem The regenerative farming that is practiced by our Kakadoodle farmers promote clean air, water and soil. With so much development in the area, the farmers are working hard to maintain their land in a way that also supports a healthy planet.

5. Support regional economy All of the Kakadoodle farms are local, which means they are participating members of your community. Local businesses not only provide jobs for community members but their earnings and time also cycle back to support the community you live in.

6. Connection with your food/farmer Community is a strong motivator for Kakadoodle. Knowing that we can spread the benefits local foods with our neighbors brings us joy. We hope that you also feel good knowing where your food is coming from and the faces bringing it to you.

7. It’s easy! Order from your phone and we drop it off at your doorstep! It doesn’t get any easier than that.
