article Scale or Die

I had a great conversation with a customer at the farmers market the other day. One of the things I love most about the market is how it gives us a chance to connect directly with you — to hear your feedback, your questions, and your hopes for Kakadoodle.
This particular chat was about growth. Like any mission-driven business, we have to reach a certain scale to be self-sustaining. We’re about halfway to that goal. So yes, “scaling” has been on our minds lately.
At one point, I even joked, “I guess it’s time to scale or die.” I just sort of blurted it out, but it stuck with me. And it got me thinking...
Is that really the best mindset to have? Is that kind of intensity what’s required to build something meaningful? Or could there be another way?
I recently finished reading (actually listening to) The Obstacle Is the Way. One of its core ideas is that growth doesn’t always come from pushing harder. Sometimes it comes from stepping back. From observing. From letting the next step emerge.
The truth is, Kakadoodle is growing, and at a steady and healthy pace — about 8% month over month. And, funny enough, it’s not because of some brilliant growth hack or campaign. It’s because of you.
When you share Kakadoodle with your neighbors… when you repost something on Facebook… when you tell someone about our eggs or bundles or mission - that's what has fueled our growth.
So this July, I’m reminding myself to trust that. To trust you. To pause and breathe. To create space to observe and reflect, rather than forcing our way forward. And God willing, the rest will fall into place.
Thanks for being part of this journey. You’re not just supporting a business, you’re helping reshape the future of food.
