newsletter Trees, Turkeys & Charcuterie
— Did you see the Northern Lights last Tuesday night!? It was crazy, never seen anything like it before. MariKate snagged this picture from our backyard. Anyways... and I’ve got a little farm‑update plus some holiday good‑things to share with you!
Tree‑Love on the Farm
We just wrapped up planning over 1,000 trees on our property — and we couldn’t be more excited to get them in the ground before winter. Big milestone.
Have you ever heard of “tree‑ranging” chickens? It’s where chickens roam in trees (instead of just across a field) — much closer to their natural habitat. We’ll be planting with that in mind: eventually our hens will have a lovely little forest to roam and forage in the branches.
Here’s why this tree plan matters:
- Trees help build soil health, trap carbon, hold nutrients — which means better pastures and stronger feed for our animals (and that ties back to healthier food on your table).
- More trees = more biodiversity. Beneficial insects, birds, native plants — they all help regulate pests naturally, reduce the need for chemical inputs, and support a more resilient farm ecosystem.
- Shade and shelter for the animals: the hens (and eventually other livestock) will be happier and healthier. Happy animals → better eggs and meat.
- Landscape value for the long‑term: this isn’t just about one season, it’s about setting up the farm for decades of regenerative success.
Turkey Update 🦃
We sold out of our reserved turkeys from Ed at DuChick Ranch — thank you! But he still has a handful of smaller ones that need homes. So if you’re still looking for a last‑minute turkey, add them to your cart by Sunday evening.
For those who have ordered: we’ll be delivering them to your door this week along with your Kakadoodle order. Thanks so much for supporting us and Ed this holiday season.

Let’s Talk Charcuterie for the Holidays
Whenever we’re visiting friends or family, our go‑to appetizer is a charcuterie board (so easy, so fun). And the great news — all of the ingredients come from our local farms, chemical‑free and full of flavor you can’t fake.
Here are our favs for the board:
- Blue cheese: https://kakadoodle.com/shop/product/545
- Raw milk sheep feta: https://kakadoodle.com/shop/product/179
- Honeycomb: https://kakadoodle.com/shop/product/151
- New hot pepper & berry jam: https://kakadoodle.com/shop/product/608
- Sourdough bread: https://kakadoodle.com/shop/product/608 — (Note: This same link appears for jam and bread — if you’d like a direct bread link I can pull it.)
A Thought from the Farm
This week I came across an article about five different local‑food models — incredible work by many folks trying to get clean food to more people. What struck me is one thing they all lacked, and it seemed so obvious it almost hurt not to see it. At Kakadoodle, we’re banking on that missing piece — and I truly believe it can flip the whole system on its head. If you want to hear more, I wrote a post about it here:
Local Food Can’t Thrive in an Industrial System
Thanks so much for being part of our farm‑to‑your‑door journey. By choosing Kakadoodle you’re doing more than picking up delicious, chemical‑free food — you’re investing in a healthier planet, a healthier family, and farmers who care.
Here’s to forests, hens in the trees, and extraordinary holiday boards.
