article What is "local"?

At Kakadoodle, we are committed to sourcing the freshest, highest quality ingredients for our products. That's why we prioritize sourcing from local family farms whenever possible. In fact, the USDA considers local food to be the "distance between food production and consumption that is four hundred miles or less."

Our goal is to source from farms that are less than 20 miles away from our production facility. This not only allows us to ensure that the food we use is incredibly fresh, but it also supports the local economy and helps to reduce our carbon footprint by cutting down on transportation costs and emissions.

There are many benefits to sourcing local food, including:

  • Fresher, more nutrient-rich food: Local food is often picked at the peak of ripeness, which means it is more flavorful and nutrient-dense.
  • Supporting the local economy: When you buy local food, you are supporting local farmers and the local economy.
  • Reducing the environmental impact: Local food has a smaller carbon footprint because it doesn't have to travel as far to get to your plate.

However, we also understand that sometimes it's not always possible to source all of our ingredients from such a limited radius. In those cases, we may source from farms that are up to 300 miles away. While we prefer to source as locally as possible, we never compromise on quality and are willing to go the extra mile (literally) to find the best ingredients for our products.

We are proud to work with a network of dedicated family farms that share our values of sustainability and commitment to producing the highest quality food. By partnering with these farms, we are able to bring our customers delicious, locally-sourced products that they can feel good about consuming.

At Kakadoodle, we believe that sourcing locally is not only good for the environment and the local economy, but it also leads to better-tasting, more nutrient-rich food. We are dedicated to constantly improving our sourcing practices and finding new ways to support local farmers and bring our customers the freshest, most delicious products possible.
