newsletter You Did This — Our Biggest Week Yet 🙌

Well, it’s official — we just wrapped up the biggest sales week ever at Kakadoodle! And yep, turkey season had a whole lot to do with it. (Scroll down for the real numbers).

If you received one of our local, pasture-raised turkeys this week — THANK YOU. I hope it will bring something special to your Thanksgiving table. Not just better flavor (because let’s be real, that’s a given), but the feeling of knowing you were part of something bigger.

Now, here’s the wild part: we thought we were sold out of turkeys… but somehow, we ended up with three extra. I believe they’re all around 13–15 lbs. We’ll have them at our farm market (6120 Sauk Trail, Matteson) starting at 10 AM this morning, first‑come, first‑serve. Of course, we will have everything else available as well - meat, greens, dairy and lots more. Hope to see some of you there today! :)

Food Highlights This Week

🌈 Rainbow Eggs
We’re fully stocked on small rainbow eggs again! These little beauties were actually the very first product on our marketplace — and they’re still a favorite.
You’ll find blue, green, dark brown, cream, and every shade in between. Perfect for hosting breakfast or sparking curiosity in your kids.
They’re “small” because these are the first eggs our birds lay, and early eggs tend to be smaller — but wow are they tasty.

🍗 Chicken Wings
Okay, real talk — we’ve got a LOT of wings piling up in the freezer. So we’re discounting them to help move some!
If you’re subscribed, they’re down to $7.20.
These wings are pasture-raised, chemical-free, and incredibly flavorful. Perfect for game day, after-school snacks, or a fun weekend dinner.

🍖 Pork Shoulder Roast
Roast season is HERE and this is the perfect centerpiece. Our pork shoulder roasts come from Dietrich Ranch, just outside of Rockford.
These folks are the real deal — they raise their pigs with care, using regenerative practices and zero antibiotics or chemicals.
This roast is ideal for slow cooking — think pulled pork sandwiches, tacos, or a cozy Sunday dinner.

Reimagining Farming 👀

Earlier this week I came across an article about “reimagining farming as an innovative career path.” It was inspiring — more small farmers getting into the game is exactly what we need. But it missed something big… probably the most critical piece of actually supporting new farmers.

Here’s the part most people don’t see: farming gets romanticized as peaceful, meaningful work (and it is), but the financial and emotional rollercoaster behind the scenes is brutal. Most small regenerative farms simply can’t survive inside traditional food systems — the math doesn’t work.

Our dream is for Kakadoodle to become a blueprint for a new kind of local food ecosystem… one where small farmers can actually thrive.

If you’re curious, here's a link to the post: It’s Time To Rethink What Farming Can Be

While were talking about local food systems (b/c doesn't everybody!?), we got some amazing feedback recently from David Cooper — someone who’s helping lead the global movement for regenerative food systems. In summary...

"Kakadoodle embodies the kind of transformational approach to food systems I work to support... they've chosen to build differently, proving that people will pay for clean, local, chemical-free food... This is precisely the kind of innovation we need more of in the food system."

Here's a link to the full comment. It's encouragement like this (from people who actually know what they're talking about) that are always so nice to hear, and indicate that we are hopefully (God-willing) heading in the right direction.

Now Lat's Talk Business

A lot of you have reached out this year — especially after the bird flu and funding freezes. No doubt about it, those were incredibly tough blows. Financially, emotionally… it shook us. But your support — your orders, your donations, your kind words — reminded us of something really powerful:

We’re not just a local food delivery service. We’re something more. And it’s because of you that we’re still here.

That’s why I always want to be transparent with you about where we’re at. Because we’re building this together. And farming — especially the kind that’s regenerative, local, and chemical-free — comes with a reality check. It’s beautiful, but it’s also hard.

Here’s the exciting part though:
Even beyond turkey sales, this week was a huge win. We hit nearly $19,000 in total sales, with a little over $5,000 of that from turkeys.

Since we started in 2021, we’ve been marching toward a big milestone: $25,000 per week in revenue. That’s the number that makes this business truly sustainable — not reliant on government grants, not chasing funding cycles. Just powered by everyday families making better food choices.

And we’re getting there. $25,000 is in sight. Slowly, steadily, and most importantly — together.

Your support, your shares, your grocery dollars — that’s what fuels this movement. That’s how we build the kind of food system our kids deserve.

Let’s keep growing.
