article Chicks Are Back! 🐣

After a wild year dealing with the bird flu, we finally have chicks back on the property! Most hatcheries are totally wiped out and sold out through 2025 (seriously 😳), probably because the big producers are scooping them all up. But we kept at it, hounded the hatcheries, and managed to get our hands on a few hundred fuzzy little chicks.
WGN even came out to the farm to catch the moment! Check out the story here: Matteson Farm Welcomes Back Chickens After Bird Flu Quarantine
🌱 Embracing Organic
Last week was our first farmers market of the season, and it felt so good to be back out connecting with everyone. Also this week, I finally got around to reading (actually listening) to The Omnivore’s Dilemma. Between that and the questions about "organic" at the market, I’ve been feeling inspired to dive deeper into organic... what does organic really mean today, is it actually better, and what it means for Kakadoodle.
I shared some thoughts about that on Facebook, where I also link to a much deeper dive into the subject: Better thank Organic?
