newsletter Egg Bites Sold Out!
Okay… This is crazy:
Our Egg Bites officially hit the shelves at Brookhaven Market this week… and they SOLD OUT in 2.5 hours. 🤯
I mean… yes, it was a small test batch. But still. It's amazing to see our community rallying. Every single one—gone before most people even had a chance to grab them.
Brookhaven called back and reordered 48 more units (!!) and are stocking them in their Mokena and Burr Ridge locations. Let's see how long those stay on the shelves!
A little side note on the egg bites:
- The first batch were a little smaller than we wanted.
- The egg bites in the stores and online are now much bigger!
Meet our newest Farm: Artesian Farm (New Buffalo, MI)
Artesian Farm is a bit different from what you might picture when you think of a “farm.” It’s an indoor, vertical hydroponic operation located in a reclaimed industrial building in New Buffalo, Michigan—growing incredibly fresh greens year-round without pesticides or GMOs.
I visited them last week, and posted a quick video of the trip: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1CNo7TdvMX/
Because everything is grown in a controlled environment, they’re able to harvest consistently and deliver produce just hours after it’s picked. The result is greens that are clean, vibrant, and noticeably fresher.
What They Grow
🥗 Spirit Mix (Salad Mix)
A blend of distinctive lettuces with vibrant color, texture, and taste. This is their signature mix—crisp, clean, and ready to go straight into a bowl.
🥬 Kale
Tender, nutrient-dense greens with a clean bite. Great for salads, sautés, or smoothies.
🌿 Basil
Their best seller: Fresh, aromatic basil grown year-round. The kind of ingredient that instantly elevates a meal.
🫙 Pesto
Made from their fresh basil, this is a simple, ready-to-use way to bring real flavor into pasta, sandwiches, or roasted veggies.
🌿 A hard decision: No farmers markets this year
We’ve made the decision to not attend any farmers markets this year… yes, even Frankfort.
This wasn’t easy. The Frankfort Market has been a meaningful part of our family’s story and Kakadoodle’s growth.
But we’ve learned something important:
👉 We have to lean into what’s working.
Right now, our on-farm market is working better than we expected. It allows us to serve you more consistently, operate more sustainably, and keep doing this work long-term.
🐣 Hatching eggs are available
We’ve been getting a lot of questions about hatching eggs lately, from both families and schools.
So we made them available online:

Whether you’re raising chicks at home or in the classroom, this is a simple way to get started.
🌬️ A glimpse into the reality of farming
On a more somber note, last week’s windstorm tore the top off one of our high tunnels—where about half of our chickens were housed.
Thankfully, all of the chickens are safe, and we were able to move them into a nearby building.
But moments like this bring a reality into focus that I’ve been coming to grips with:
👉 We can’t afford to be farmers: https://kakadoodle.com/post/We+Can%27t+Afford+to+be+Farmers
💛 Why your support matters more than ever
Every time you choose Kakadoodle—whether it’s eggs, egg bites, or hatching eggs—you’re doing something bigger than just grocery shopping.
You’re:
- Supporting local farmers who are trying to do things the right way
- Choosing food that’s truly clean and nourishing for your family
- Helping keep small, regenerative farms alive in a world that makes it really hard
And we don’t take that lightly. Not for a second.
If you haven’t tried the Egg Bites yet, take a trip to Brookhaven, or come visit us at the farm this weekend from 10-2.
We’re just getting started… and we’re so grateful you’re on this journey with us. 💛
