article How cancer led to Kakadoodle

With World Cancer Day approaching this Saturday, it has us reflecting on how cancer motivated us to start Kakadoodle in the first place.

Several years ago, when I fried up a few 10ยข eggs and handed them out to my kids, I remember thinking... why is this egg so darn cheap? Something about it just didn't seem right. Maybe I shouldn't be feeding my kids this?

So we set out to find farm fresh eggs. Piling the kids into the back of the minivan, driving out to the country, where we'd knock on the farmers door, but... no answer. Kids are screaming in the back seat, and I wonder - shouldn't there be a better way to get farm fresh eggs?

Then in March 2018, MariKate noticed a lump on my neck. Wellโ€ฆ I noticed it as well, but thought I was invincible. The first doctor said it was nothing, Kate didn't believe him. The second doctor did a CT scan and I found myself on the biopsy table the next day. I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Once you have cancer, you start to pay attention to the research about the carcinogens. At first it was just a gut feeling about the 10ยข grocery eggs. But after the cancer diagnosis, the research I found about industrialized food system confirmed there was something to it. So we decided to do something about it and started Kakadoodle ๐Ÿ’ช

It started with eggs but grew into so much more. We continue to search and seek out local farmers to help us provide grass-fed, grass-finished beef, microgreens, local honey, A2 cows, local produce and more!

We love hearing from our Kakadoodle community about how our service helps them feel confident in feeding their families. Even our daughter has been able to digest cheese for the first time without issues and finally enjoys quesadillas with her siblings, thanks to our A2 cheese.

When I was diagnosed with cancer on that first day, I remember thinking that work didn't matter... only faith and family. Luckily now our work is centered on faith and family everyday. We feel so honored to be your trusted partner in the kitchen, providing you with real food from happy animals on local farms.

It is hard to manage all risks when it comes to cancer, but it is a lot easier to start with your plate knowing that local farm fresh food is available. Tag us at @Kakadoodlefarm to share your food and health stories!
